A better alternative to paintball?

I went with a bunch of folks to TagZone last night.

It's basically a cross between Lazer Tag and Paintball. You have the guns and the masks from paintball, only instead of paintballs, your ammo is small marble sized foam balls. Also, instead of running around in a field or forest, you're in a darkened warehouse space with corridors and cubby holes much like Lazer Tag.

It has a lot of advantages over Paintball:
  1. Since everything is close-quarters, the games are quick. If you get killed at the beginning of the game you don't have to wait a long time for the next.
  2. The ammo is renewable, between games you pick up ammo to reuse so you don't have to spend extra money and buy it.
  3. It's not too expensive, $37 for 2 hours ($32 with the free membership).
  4. It's indoors, you don't have to worry about weather conditions.
  5. You can play at night (duh).

Another cool thing is that they advertise an "all-nighter": Midnight to 4am for $45 including free pizza. You can bring in your beer, drink and then go shoot each other! Fun!!

Now, it still stings a bit when you're hit but it's not nearly as bad as the paintballs. I've only got one mark on my upper thigh. Looks like a hickie, really.

Next time we get the gang together, we are SO doing this!

How do you know you've shot an opponent. With paintball there's no argument. Honour system?

Yeah, honour system. Everyone was on their best behaviour as far as I could tell. It's close quarters so there will be some cicumstances when you KNOW you had to have hit the guy.

There's a marshall in the maze with you, so he will always bring justice if someone's being an ass.
